Dependent child benefits
Dependent children of a deceased person may be eligible to receive financial support.
If the deceased person had one or more dependent children at the time of the motor vehicle accident, financial support is provided by way of fortnightly payments until each child reaches the age of 16.
If the child is disabled or remains in full-time education and does not marry, fortnightly payments will continue until they are 21 years old.
The dependent child benefits are paid each fortnight to the primary caregiver of the child.
The fortnightly payments are calculated up to 10% of the average weekly earnings. Please see the current benefits table
to find how much MAC can pay for each child per fortnight.
Benefit reductions and exclusions
In some circumstances, benefits may be reduced or totally excluded.
Please see benefit reductions and exclusions.
