Interstate accidents
Northern Territory residents are covered by the MAC Scheme if a Northern Territory registered vehicle is involved in an accident when interstate.
Northern Territory residents
A MAC claim can be made if a Northern Territory resident was injured or died in an interstate accident that involved a Northern Territory registered motor vehicle.
To make a claim on the MAC Scheme, please provide a copy of the police accident report and complete and submit a MAC Scheme claim form.
Alternatively, Northern Territory residents, who were not at fault in the accident, may choose to claim damages or compensation under the compulsory third party (CTP) scheme in the state or territory where the accident occurred. In this case, you will need to contact the relevant authority listed below for the state in which the accident occurred.
Residents of other states
Residents of other states or the ACT, may claim against the MAC Scheme where a Northern Territory registered motor vehicle was at fault, and the accident occurred outside the Northern Territory. These accidents are governed by different rules, based on where the accident occurred. Please contact the authority in the state or territory where the accident occurred for further information.
