How we assess injury claims
TIO MAC will gather information and make a decision about your claim based on the MAC Scheme legislation.
New claim assessment
Your TIO MAC case manager will work with you and your medical team to get all the information about the accident and your injuries necessary to assess your claim and entitlement to MAC Scheme benefits.
You may need to provide the following:
- driver’s license and/or vehicle registration
- photos of the damage to your vehicle
- police report, if the accident was interstate
- details of other insurance you may have such as income protection, travel insurance or total and permanent disability insurance
- contact details of other people involved in the accident or witnesses
- evidence of your employment circumstances prior to the accident
- your medical treatment provider’s details
You may also be requested to:
- attend a medical assessment with a specialist to help us better understand your injuries and treatment needs
- meet with an investigator to take your statement and that of any witnesses to explain how the accident happened and how you were injured.
Your TIO MAC case manager may need information from third parties such as:
- a police accident report. Drivers are required to report motor vehicle accidents to the police and failure to do so may result in MAC refusing to accept your claim
- for drivers, a toxicology report to determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident. Please see benefit reductions and exclusions
- medical records to confirm the extent of the injuries you sustained in the accident or if you have had any pre-existing conditions that the accident has affected.
Decisions as to your entitlement to MAC Scheme benefits are made in accordance with the legislation.
