MACC becomes premier partner of Michael Long centre

13 March 2015

The Northern Territory Motor Accidents Commission has been named a Premier Partner of the new Michael Long Leadership and Learning Centre in Darwin.

The Commission has signed a 10-year sponsorship agreement with the Centre to deliver generational change in road user behaviour through safety awareness and education programs for Indigenous youth.

MAC Commissioner Jim Colvin said MAC has a proud history of supporting road safety initiatives in the Territory, particularly through involvement with football programs.

“Involvement with the program gives us the opportunity to make a long-lasting impact on road safety in the Territory,” he said.

“Our experience shows that engaging with young people through sporting programs can make a huge difference to how the road safety message is received.”

The Michael Long Leadership and Learning Centre is a first-class facility providing leadership and learning programs for Indigenous male and female students from remote areas.

Located on the grounds of TIO Stadium in Darwin, the centre will harness the power of football to deliver long lasting outcomes to the people of the Northern Territory.

The centre will engage with approximately 1000 indigenous students each year aged 12-17 as they attend a week long, structured, tailored and measured educational program, delivered by professional educators in a safe, residential, sports themed facility. Students will gain accreditations contributing to their NT Certificate of Education.
